Tristan Urtizberea

Sunsea Advisory Founder

For over twelve years, I have been supporting the development of renewable energy projects, providing my clients with dual expertise: solid technical mastery and field experience acquired on some of the most innovative projects in the sector.

Graduate of ENSTA Bretagne (double degree in Naval and Offshore Architecture and in Engineering and Organization Management), I completed my studies with a year at the Universidad de Chile. This multidisciplinary training led me to develop complex projects in France and internationally.

At Akuo Energy France, a leading independent power producer (IPP), I held several positions before becoming Project Development Director. I managed a portfolio of around 1 GW of photovoltaic and wind projects and led a team of about fifteen people.

My experience covers the entire project development cycle:

  • Site identification and qualification
  • Technical and environmental feasibility studies
  • Measurement campaigns and resource analysis
  • Development strategy and permitting
  • Stakeholder and administrative consultation
  • Legal and contractual project structuring
  • Financing and investor support
  • Technical due diligences
  • EPC contract management and construction oversight

Throughout my career, I have contributed to the development of pioneering projects in several renewable energy sectors.

In particular, I led the development of Europe’s first large-scale floating photovoltaic power plant, the Piolenc plant (17 MW), and worked on several innovative marine energy projects, including the NEMO ocean thermal energy conversion (OTEC) project in Martinique, tidal current projects in Raz Blanchard, and floating wind concepts.

These experiences allowed me to acquire a global vision of projects, from initial studies to commissioning, integrating technical, regulatory, financial, contractual, environmental and human dimensions.

Today, I work as an independent consultant at Sunsea Advisory to support developers, investors, public authorities, industries and companies in the success of their renewable energy projects.

Alongside my consulting activities, I am committed to disseminating knowledge about the energy transition. I am the author of two books dedicated to renewable energy production and regularly conduct training sessions and conferences for professionals and the general public.

My approach is based on three essential values: independence, technical rigor and responsiveness. My objective is to provide each client with clear, objective and directly operational expertise, in order to secure decisions, control risks and contribute to project success.
